Earlier in the day, Tuesday, 04 December, In a joint announcement Samsung and US telecom carrier Verizon announced the launch of the world’s first commercial 5G smartphones in the US within the first quarter of 2019.
As per sources close to the matter, both companies have agreed upon unveiling a proof of concept, powered by the upcoming flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform infused with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules.
As per reports, this unveiling shall be done at the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit that is set to be held in Maui, Hawaii, this week.
In a statement Brian Higgins, Vice President, Wireless Device and Product Marketing at Verizon, said, “5G will usher in a new era of mobile connectivity, thus enabling individuals to connect to data, experiences and other in ways which could never have been imagined before.”
The Vice President, Wireless Device and Product Marketing at Verizon then added, “Jointly, Verizon and Samsung have made huge gains in bringing 5G commercial services to consumers in many cities. Our newly formed partnership is for the purpose of developing a smartphone infused with the power on 5G in the palm of your hand.”
Speaking on the announcement, Justin Denison, Senior Vice President, Mobile Product Strategy and Marketing at Samsung Electronics America said, “We are really proud to share the working stage alongside innovative partners like Qualcomm Technologies and Verizon to deliver a smartphone that will fundamentally transmute how people work and play.”
As per reports, a mobile manufacturing giant, Samsung, which will be launching the world’s first foldable smartphone within the first quarter of 2019, has formed a partnership with Verizon to work on its 5G Home offering right from the first month of 2018.
